Materials

Everything below is stock we hold. If you need something else, ask — we buy in regularly and can usually get it within a week.

Mild steel

Hot-rolled and cold-rolled. The default for brackets, frames, guards and anything that will be painted or coated.

0.9, 1.2, 1.6, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 mm

Cuts cleanly, folds predictably, cheapest per kilogram. It rusts — specify a finish or paint it yourself.

Stainless steel 304

The general-purpose stainless. Food-safe, good outdoors, keeps its appearance.

0.9, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 mm

Stainless steel 316

Marine grade. Worth the extra for coastal installations, chemical exposure or anything that lives in salt air.

1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 mm

Aluminium 5052

Light, corrosion resistant, folds well. Good for enclosures, panels and anything weight-sensitive.

1.0, 1.6, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 mm

Aluminium 5083

Higher strength than 5052, better for structural work and marine use.

3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 6.0 mm

Galvanised

Zinc-coated mild steel. Corrosion protection without a finishing step — but the coating burns back slightly at the cut edge, so it isn’t a substitute for stainless where it really matters.

0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.6, 2.0, 3.0 mm

Choosing a thickness

A rough guide, not a rule:

If you’re making Try
A cover, panel or enclosure 1.0 – 1.6 mm
A general-purpose bracket 2 – 3 mm
Something that carries load 4 – 6 mm
A shim or spacer 0.8 – 1.2 mm

Thicker is not always better. A 6 mm bracket costs roughly four times a 1.6 mm one in material alone, folds to a much larger inside radius, and needs a bigger flange to fold at all.

Bend limits

We fold up to 6 mm through the website. Thicker than that we still fold, but not unattended — a heavy fold needs somebody to look at the flange lengths and the tooling before we promise it. Send the file to orders@clickcutship.co.za and we will quote it. Cutting flat at any thickness we stock is no problem.

The shortest flange we can fold is roughly four times the material thickness plus the die opening. On 2 mm that’s about 12 mm; on 6 mm it’s closer to 35 mm. If your drawing asks for less, the site will warn you before you pay.

Holes closer than about 1.5 × thickness to a bend line will distort when folded. We’ll flag those too.

Maximum size

2500 × 1250 mm per part. Larger than that, or longer than 1.5 m and needing delivery, and it becomes a collection or a conversation — email us and we’ll sort it out.
